We are excited to present the electrifying poetry of Ricardo Hernandez as our June featured poet at Ken Siegelman's Brooklyn Poetry Outreach. This is our final event of the 2015-16 season, and we will return in September with more exciting poetry.
Ricardo is a Bensonhurst native, educator, and poet. With influences from early Hip-Hop culture, Ricardo found himself inspired by the written form of graffiti and the spoken word of rap. Growing into his artistic skin, Ricardo spent his younger years painting walls under the street lights of Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens. Since then he has retired the spray paint and broad tip markers, but could not relinquish the pen and pad. When Ricardo graduated High School he enlisted in the United Sates Air Force and served as a Project Manager with the 71st Fighter Squadron.Ricardo has been fortunate to have featured for a number of open mic series and performed alongside incredibly talented poets from New York to North Carolina.
Currently Ricardo is one of three host/curators for Poets Settlement Open Mic Series at Breukelen Colony. He was named Brooklyn Poets' Yawper of the Year for 2014, and will be featured in the inaugural volume of the Brooklyn Poets Anthology (slated for release by Brooklyn Arts Press in 2017.)
As always, following Ricardo's reading will be the open mic, so put a poem in your pocket and join us!
