I've read the instructions over and over and am struggling with paragraph styles.
I know that you should always use a named style.
I have tried to apply the style "normal" to paragraphs on 2 pages and they come out different. See images.
Thanks!

Hi Scott,

Sorry to hear that. It's a bit hard to tell what the problem is from the screenshot, so perhaps you can send me the Jutoh project file and I'll take a look.

If direct character or paragraph formatting is overriding the named paragraph style formatting, you can clear it with Format | Clear Direct Formatting.

Regards,

Julian

Hi Scott,

Please check your spam folder, as my replies don't seem to be getting to you.

Thanks,

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the file.

1. In "Dedication", you have applied Normal with no other formatting. In "Chapter 21", if you look at the Styles tab in the Formatting Palette and the description of formatting at the bottom of the window, you can see that there is also Current + Helvetica. You can either use Clear Direct Formatting, or you can use Format | Book | Formatting Cleanup and check "Remove ad hoc font names from text".

2. You need to use a style that has after-paragraph spacing. Although you could edit Normal, it will be used as a base style for lots of other styles, so it's not recommended; instead, I suggest editing "Body Text" and setting the after-paragraph spacing to e.g. 40, and then applying that as required.

3. Yes, it would be better to use before-paragraph spacing than blank/asterisked lines. Also, Heading 1 is intended to be used for chapter headings, not title pages. This means that if you were to use advanced TOC mechanism (Format | Book | Build Table of Contents, Jutoh will be able to correctly identify section heading text.
