I know this is probably just wishful thinking (and no doubt a dumb idea) but since Jutoh doesn't have a PDF export feature would there be a way to export to a PDF driver like Final Draft does to create a PDF?  I've also seen this in many other programs.

Just a thought.

Best,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Jutoh doesn't implement printing itself - printing is a pain to do and I
chose to concentrate on file import/export. So you can export to a
single HTML file for printing via a web browser (and you could then
choose the PDF driver), or for a better result, you can export to ODT
and use LibreOffice or OpenOffice (or some other word processor) to
export to PDF.

It comes up quite frequently and yes, it would be nice to have instant
PDF export. However, I would not be able to do a better job than the
likes of LibreOffice at pagination, cross-references, TOCs with page
numbers, etc. (which would still be needed to make use of a PDF print
driver) so maintaining a high quality of ODT export means that I can
kill two birds with one stone: export to a word processor, and
indirectly, high quality export to PDF.

Exporting to ODT and then to PDF is this sequence of operations:

1. Select the OpenDocument configuration and click Compile.
2. Click Launch to open in e.g. LibreOffice.
3. Update all fields.
4. Export to PDF, choosing some options in the PDF dialog.

So maybe a minute or so to achieve. Perhaps slightly annoying if you're
doing it frequently, but for most people it wouldn't be done as
frequently as launching in, say, Kindle Previewer.

Regards,

Julian

Julian,

All that makes perfect sense.  I did try ODT (opening it in Word) and it seemed to work perfectly, as you said and intended.  Thanks for the info!  I'm getting to the final stages of this book and want to make sure I can get it all right.  I haven't tried formatting for print yet so just exploring the tip of that iceberg.  This all helps greatly as does the book by you I purchase on Amazon.

Best,
Mark
