I use style "Pause" (I got this style from novel template) with three asterisks centered (see below)

* * *

I have checked box "Avoid page break after paragraph" so that the three asterisks always appear at top of page on a page break, never orphaned at bottom of page. This seems to work as expected.

But if I "Insert Rule" for a horizontal line and I use this line (100% from left to right) instead of three asterisks, it can page break at bottom of page instead of top, even though "Avoid page break after paragraph" is still checked.

Is there a way to fix this so that horizontal line does not appear orphaned at bottom of page but always at top of new page when there is a page break?

Hi John,

I can see this problem in several readers too, including Kindle.

However, if you put the horizontal rule in a box together with the next paragraph, and in Advanced set "Page break inside" to "avoid", Kindle seems to do the right thing, as does Thorium and AZARDI when compiling for Epub 3, but not ADE (which crashed a whole lot anyway). If using the box method, it's probably best to set the configuration option "Maximum box words for inline-block" to zero to stop it being marked as an inline-block (a workaround for centering boxes in ADE).

It's possible there's a 'proper' way to get this to work via CSS but I don't know of one.

Regards,

Julian
