According the Kennewick Man video, there was an issue about NAGPRA
(North American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act). Where do
you stand with regards to the different sides that were taken (the
scientists and the natives). More importantly, do you see a way to
resolve these issues in the future?

#2 Read through Chapter 6 and read through Brian Fagan’s excellent
description of the California coastal Chumash from his 1995 book Time
Detectives (http://cogweb.ucla.edu/Chumash/Fagan_95.html). Have a
look at Google Group Files posted by Terry Jones (Chapter 1) and Mark
Hylkema (Chapter 13) that touch on Bay Area native populations.

a. They were Hunter/Gatherers, they lived in California up until the
time of contact. They were sedentary. Why didn’t they turn to
agriculture? Why did they not have the transition to agriculture?

b. Can a society be truly complex without agriculture?

We visited the Foothill Organic Garden site which is being sponsored
by the Sustainability Committee here at Foothill College. The
Anthropology Club has received a small grant of $500 to contribute to
the vision of the place. What do you propose that we should do with
the money and how could we integrate the location into the curriculum
for this class? In other words, what should we do with the money in
the next few months as a class?
