Hi all,

I'm relatively new to AntConc, and I'm so thrilled by the release of 4.0 (congratulations again, Laurence!).

Is there any documentation or explanation of what the different tabs or Headers are under each tool?

I'm looking through the Help documentation, I've searched through the group here, even watched some (not all) of the tutorials. I haven't been able to find that information yet, and I'd really love to know more about the information that I'm seeing, especially if it's already published somewhere.

I've included two examples of what I mean, though I'd really love to learn more about all of these different headers.

Thank you!

Hi Justin,

Sorry for the slow response. Some posts were sent to my Spam folder. I've fixed the problem now.

The terms used in the columns are all fairly common in corpus linguistics.

NormFreq => Normed Frequency (the normalization value is set in the global settings)
Dispersion => How dispersed is the word in the file (the dispersion statistic is set in the tool settings)
FreqLR => The frequency of the collocate to the left and right of the search term
FreqL => The frequency of the collocate to the left of the search term
FreqLR => The frequency of the collocate to the right of the search term
Range => The number of files in which the search term appears (this is a standard term)
Likelihood => A statistic measure of saliency (keyness) (the statistic is set in the tool settings)
Effect => An effect size measure (the statistic is set in the tool settings)

In a near-future release, I'm intending on adding a Glossary to the help menu, that should provide more information about these terms.

I hope that helps.

Laurence.

Hi Laurence,

This was so helpful, thank you! And, I also got to watch the video recording for the workshop you recently conducted for Yonsei University; most helpful, and really great to see how you explain & work with AntConc.

Best,
Justin W.
