Hi Laurence,

I’m trying to run a keyword analysis in AntConc for which it would be important to use the Phi coefficient (Cramer’s V) as an effect size measure. This option used to be embedded in AntConc, but I can’t find it anymore in the drop-down list.

Is there any way I can still get results for this type of effect size?

I’m currently using version 4.3.1 on a Mac.

Thank you very much!
Best regards from Northern Arizona University,
Wesley

Hi Laurence
i am working with the "Avventure di Pinocchio"
i am studying the characters by analyzing the collocates to the names of the characters.
one character is named Geppetto, and this name recurs 72 times
when i search for its collocates i get only 3 lines of them
which is not only unlikely, but not corresponding to what one already roughly sees examining the KWIC concordance

may i send a message with the KWIC concordance and the collocates?
Maurizio

Dear Mauirzio,

The collocates of Geppetto have to pass the default statistical significance, so with only one book in the corpus, I expect this is why you only get 3. If you lower the significance level, you should see more of them.

I hope that helps.

Laurence.

thank you a lot, Laurence.
for some reason the threshold was set to "p<0.05 (3.84 with Bonferroni)" (some tampering of mine, obviously!)
i reset it to "all values" and everything is working as expected.

Hi,

The default setting is "p<0.05 (3.84 with Bonferroni)". If you set it to all values, you will effectively get collocate strength values for every word in the corpus. I would suggest you perhaps remove the Bonferroni correction and just use p<0.05 or p< 0.1.

Laurence.
