adding characters to antconc 4.1.1

Dear professor Anthony, 

I tried to add two characters to Antconc 4.1.1 but when I search for them I don't find any hits 

the characters are:

() no hits found

-  not the real number of hits

I think you just need to escape these characters. For example:

\(little\)

These characters are part of the metadiscourse markers I am searching for in my corpus. 

for the dash - character, i put asterisks in both sides of the dash (i.e. *-*) and it works, but the parentheses () didn't.

yes, I searched successfully thanks to your instructions but the number of hits is not accurate.

I just checked. In Word, I get 43 hits. I get the same in AntConc (after turning off the "Words" option (because you are not searching for words):
