Hi All,

I have a problem when saving my Concordance output as a text file when opened with Excel, the data does not appear in the right columns.

The column separator does not seem to be working properly (see attached files).

First I was using <tab> a column delimiter, which produced the most errors,

Then I tried removing all semicolon ' ; ' from my text files and use a semicolon ' ; ' as text delimiter,

There are fewer errors now, but it is still not directly usable

Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Thanks a lot for your time, and your answer,

Youri

Hi,

I just looked at your tab-delimited text file and it is clear that there are all sorts of line breaks dotted through the file that should not be there. I don't see how AntConc could have created this file. Clearly this is not going to import properly into Excel. I think you should try saving the results in AntConc via the file menu or just selecting and copying them.

I hope that helps.

Laurence.

Hi Laurence,

Thanks a lot for your quick answer, and for all you work in developing Antconc!

I have tried both (with tab as a delimiter) using the File menu > Save Output to text file and copying and pasting the results into a blank text file but it produces the same results. (files attached)

By the way, I forgot to mention that I am using AntConc 3.4.3m, on MacOS Sierra 10.12.4, maybe be it is a cross-platform issue... I am attaching my text corpus as a zip file in case that help

Thanks a lot for your help,

Youri

Hi,

Sorry for the long delay. I don't have a Mac immediately available at the moment, but you should try the latest version of AntConc 3.4.4.

Also, it seems that you have some weird square symbol ■  characters at the starts of lots of lines, that seem to be rendered as line breaks when copied. I think you need to clean your data of these prior to your analysis.

I hope that helps.

Laurence.
