Negative keywords

Hello,

I am currently using AntConc 4.3.1 and have observed that all keywords appear to be from the reference corpus rather than the target corpus when I select “Show negative keywords” and set the threshold to “All values.” Additionally, the log-likelihood values do not display negative numbers; the lowest value shown is 0.00, unlike in version 3.5.9.

Could you please let me know if I might have configured something incorrectly? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Udomsak,

Negative keywords are words in the target corpus that are unusually *infrequent* compared with the reference corpus. So, all the words in your list should still be from your target corpus, but the highest ranked words by keyness will be those that have low relative frequencies in your target corpus and high relative frequencies in the reference corpus. The values are not shown as negative because the list now comprises only of negative keywords.
