Dear All,

I'm happy to announce that AntConc 4.2.0 for Windows, MacOS, and Linux is now released. This new version has many new features and several bug fixes. Some of the highlights include a much faster startup time, a revised corpus manager with new icons, labels, and features to make things easier to understand and use, a new, simple way to create corpora from wordlists, and a simpler, but more powerful way to work with pos and lemma tagged corpora. For a complete list of changes, see here:

You can get the Windows, MacOS, and Linux versions as official releases here:

As there are quite a few new features added to this version, do let me know what you think of them. I am hoping that they make AntConc an even more powerful and useful desktop corpus analysis tool, while keeping it simple and easy to use.

Best regards,

Laurence.

Respected sir,

Is this latest version can solve the confusion regarding how to find who is using more lengthy word and sentence constructions either male or female in any data?
If yes tell me how can I check it.
If not then suggest me any other way or tool to see this linguistic variation by male and female. Thanks.

Regards,
Nadia

Hi Laurence,
Many thanks for this new version. Start-up is lightning fast – so good after the old behaviour ("is anything happening, did I actually click it it?").
The new colour-coding in the corpus library is useful. It's stopped me clicking the radio button instead of the filename to select a corpus.
Cheers,
Emma

Hi Emma,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the new Corpus Manager design. I had to build custom widgets that combine the function of a standard checkbox and a multi-colored radio button. But, as you say, I think they reduce the confusion. They look really nice on Windows and Linux, but the rendering on my MacOS computer is not so great (with the edge not completely showing and the indicators appearing slightly off center) so I'll try to fix that in the next release.

If you notice any issues with the new release, do let me know.

Laurence.
