can I use antconc to count the total number of Chinese words and English words at the same time if there is both Chinese words and English words in one text? If no, I am wondering if there is any tool that can automatically separate the Chinese words from the English words?

Sure. First you need to segment your texts into 'words'. My SegmentAnt tool can help you do this.

I also recommend that you standardize your text encodings - UTF8 is the standard.

Then, just run the word list tool in AntConc as normal. It is designed to count words in all languages by default.

I hope that helps!

Laurence.

Thanks for your reply, professor. I am wondering whether there is a tool which can both tag the Chinese words as well as the English words "at the same time", since I have some transcriptions of recordings of some Chinese students' wiriting procedure(by thinking aloud, and there are many English words as well as many Chinese words in one transcription piece---see the enclosed picture ). If there is such kind of tagging tool, then I can put them all into antconc for future research.
Hope for your reply~
