Dear all,

I don´t seem to get the results from the concordance search into Excel. After generating the results, I select the columns (e.g., using the Shortcut ALT A), copy the contents (using CTRL C), and then paste them into Excel (CTRL V), bu all I get is one big mess...
Does anyone know the aswer to this problem?
Thanks!

Fenna

What do you mean by "one big mess"? Have you tried delimiting the search word with tabs via the Concordance settings menu?

Laurence.

Dear Anthony,

Thank for your reply.
You made a Great tool!
With mess I mean that their are no  columns nice and neatly.
What do You mean with delimiting the search word with tabs via the Concordance settings menu?

Thx
Fenna

Hi,

First you need to expand the columns to see exactly what is in each. If the results are not what you want, go to the Concordance settings menu in AntConc and you will see the delimiter option. It puts tabs around the search word in the results allowing it to be copied into its own column in Excel. Try it! You'll understand once you see the effect.

Laurence.

Hi Laurence,

Thx! I actually did all that but it still does not come out properly. What else could cause this? Do You know?

Best

Hi again,

First, simplify the problem. Write a test.txt file with the following content: "the cat sat on the mat".

Then create a concordance output for "the" (2 rows in the KWIC output).

Make sure you can copy and paste the results into Excel keeping the "the" column separate. Once you do this, you will probably be able to find out the problem on your bigger corpus.

Laurence.
