Search Many Phrases

Good Day, 

I am new to AntConc but have watched all the videos in the newest series. I am using 4.4.2 on macOS 26.3.1.

I would like to search for the frequency of hundreds of predefined phrases, but can't get the Search Query List to work (see attachment). In Cluster and N-Gram tools, I always get the error "The number of search terms exceeds the cluster/ngram size setting."

In addition, I would like to search for instances of the # sign.

Hi Derek,

Your list is not formatted correctly. Use the entry box to add items one-by-one, or simply drag the entire list (from wherever you created it) directly into the box. It should look like the following:

aaa

bbb

ccc

dd

Your current formatting is what you use in the standard query box in the main interface.

To search for #, you have a few options. If you created your corpus with the full-text option activated, you can do a simple full-text regex search:

\#

If you didn't activate that, you will probably need to include the # as part of the token definition when you create your corpus inside the Corpus Manager.

One special case is where # appears as a non-token after a word. In that case, you could search for the following, where + means any word, and the _[ ] is the syntax to search for non-words.

+_[#]

I have reentered the list of phrases without punctuation or spaces between words, but I still get the same error message.

Hi,

You say you “reentered” the list. That sounds wrong. You should be dragging or pasting the list into the list box (not the entry widget)
