Dear Mr Anthony,
I'm experiencing some problems and I'd like to ask your opinion about them.
The first problem is that when I try to copy and paste (in a Excel or Word file) the concordance results after having sorted them, I cannot see them sorted anymore (i.e. I don't have the words coloured).
The second problem I think is about a bug. For some files, instead of characters such as hyphen, bulleted lists and the inverted commas for direct speech, the are strange characters such as \x95, \xBB and \x97 appearing. Is this normal? I don't know whether this depends on the fact that these files were HTML files that I first copied and pasted in Microsoft Word, and then on txt.files.  However, if I open these txt files without AntConc, no weird character appears.
Do you know how I can fix these two problems? Thank you so much for your reply!

Hi,

First, the AntConc saved results do not have the colors included. However, if you delimit the search term in the results with a tab (via the Concordance settings option), you can then copy the results into Excel and the search term will have its own column. It's then easy to color that column. Another option is to take a screenshot of the AntConc display.

Second, the problem you are experiencing is definitely a character encoding problem. I suspect you are trying to use a Latin 1 encoded file in AntConc, which defaults to UTF-8 (the international standard). I recommend you save all your files in the UTF-8 encoding, but if you can't (or don't want to), simply change the AntConc encoding setting to Latin 1 in the global settings. That should fix things.

I hope that helps.

Laurence.

Yes, it looks like it was just a problem of encoding, now it works perfectly.

Thank you also for the suggestion about how to save the results.

Have a nice weekend!
