Hi,
I'm trying to print out my concordance output in AntConc 3.4.0, but I cannot see the printing tool. Would you help me?

Hi Connie,
The quick way is to save the output then print from the text file output. This is the easiest but not always the neatest looking way (output can overflow to the next line).

Hi Connie,

AntConc 3.x doesn't have any printing functions. Sorry! You can save the results as plain text from the file menu but if you want the color highlighting you will have to take a screenshot.

AntConc 4.0 will fix this and offer a way to export the color highlighted concordance lines. 4.0 is 'coming soon'.

Laurence.

Just to follow on from Warren (answering at the same time as me!), you can simply copy and paste results straight into Excel. Then there is no overlow problem and you can then easily import the results into your word processor.

A follow up to Anthony's suggestion: if there are inverted commas or apostrophes huge chunks of data can get cut off unexpectedly (it has happened to me before).

He work around is to put quote (") marks at the beginning and end of each line using regex in say Word. I didn't suggest this before because it requires learning this second technique.

Anthony, any better suggests there?

Hi again,

There is now an option in the Concordance tool to add a tab (or any other character) before and after the search term in the concordance line. If you use this and copy and past directly into Excel, the search word gets its own column and everything on the left and right is nicely aligned on either side in two additional columns.

I haven't seen huge chunks of text being cut off. Warren, do you have a screen show showing the problem?

Laurence.

Thank you so much Laurence and Warren.
Laurence would what you are describing regarding adding a tab before a search word also possible in Antcoc 3.4.0? or does it work in later versions?

Hi Connie,

The feature is in 3.3.5 and 3.4.0.

Can't seem to insert the tab. Any easy way around it?

Did you go to the tool preferences menu?

Laurence.

Hi Anthony,
No, hadn't used that new feature. I now understand its function.

What I had problems with before was a concordance line beginning with a quote mark and Excel recognizing it as the beginning of a literal, including all that came afterwards as new concordance lines. That was the reason the lines "disappeared". It only happens only when the beginning of here line starts this way.

Your new function may fix this but I need to test this.

The problem isn't Antconc but Excel's way of reading the line.

Ah yes, maybe you need to set the Excel cells to read "text" instead the default, which is some kind of hybrid.

Perhaps the tab space 'tells' Excel what to do with the pasted texts. I haven't noticed a problem to date.

Laurence.
