I am currently writing my dissertation for MA in TESOL and trying to create a lemmatized word list on AntConc ver. 4.4.0, but I cannot find this function in the latest version.

I was wondering if you know how to lemmatize a word list on AntConc ver. 4.4.0 or any other tools for lemmatization.

Sincrely,
Yurika

Hi Yurika,
i am doing phd corpus linguistics and i also need lemmatised my word list. what i did is first loaded the files into tagant software then load these tagged files into antconc .  To generate word list in their lemma form using AntConc, First, AntConc must be opened and the Corpus Manager accessed in order to load the target lemmatised corpus. After selecting the relevant raw text files, the researcher should navigate to the Basic Settings panel and choose Simple Word POS Headword Indexer from the indexing options. Once the target corpus is created, the appropriate reference corpus should also be selected and created. With both corpora indexed, the researcher can then open the word tool. Under Display Type, the option Headword + Type and POS should be selected
i hope this will help you

And it is available in the version of 4.4.0.
 You have to specify that
 In advance search
Or you have to upload the lemma word list in Antconc 4.4.0

You have to upload the lemmatised text in order to generate the lemma word list

Hi Yurika,

When you say "create a lemmatized word list", do you mean that you have a corpus and you want to create a lemma list from the corpus? Or, do you mean that you want to load in your corpus while adding lemma information to each word?

Laurence.

Thank you everyone for your help!
I will check if these procedures work on my AntConc.

Dear Laurence,

What I'm trying to do is creating a wordlist from a corpus that I have.  But I want to generate the wordlist in lemma forms.
Later, I will use the lemmatized wordlist to check the lexical coverage for another corpus.

Since I thought AntConc ver. 4.4.0 does not have this function, I tried other ways, such as first generating a wordlist in AntConc and lemmatizing the wordlist in TagAnt.  But maybe I should first lemmatize the target corpus and generate a wordlist in AntConc.

Hi Yurika,

I now understand what you are trying to do.

As you are familiar with TagAnt, the easiest way is to tag your corpus first and then load that into AntConc making sure to use the simple_word_pos_headword indexer. After that, you'll be able to generate a lemmatized word list very easily by just selecting headwords as the display option in the word list tool.

I hope that helps!

Regards,
Laurence.

I tagged my corpus with TagAnt (Display information: word+pos_tag) and uploaded the file into AntConc with "simple_word_pos_headword_indexer," but when I create a wordlist, I cannot find "headwords" option.
Do you know where I can find that?

Or is it better to lemmatize my corpus with TagAnt (Display information: lemma), upload it to AntConc with "simple_word_indexer," and create a wordlist?

Sincerely,
Yurika

Hi Yurika,

You are clicking on the *sort* option. Instead, go to the tool settings menu and select the display option there.

Regards,
Laurence.

I only see "Type" in the option.
Does this mean that I have other issues?

Hi Yurika,
Yes, there's something going wrong. Can you send me your corpus file?

Laurence.
