HiI want to move 2 MDISKs from one MDISK group to another. I have enough available space on the group from which I will remove. Can I remove MDISK without deleting VDISKs or destroying group in short online. I see this in SVC help which makes me feel it can be done but may take long time to migrate extents, any idea on time? Deleting managed disks (MDisks) from managed disk group You can remove MDisks from an MDisk group using the Deleting Managed Disks from Managed Disk Group panel. To remove an MDisk, select the MDisk(s) from the MDisk Candidates table, and click OK. Be aware that it may take some time for the MDisk(s) to be removed. The time taken will depend on various factors, such as the number of MDisks removed from the group and the number of the extents that are required to be migrated.
You can use the migrateexts command to consolidate all the extents from
the two mdisks you want to remove. The problem is figuring out how many
extents from a given vdisk is on the mdisks. I am going to assume that
there is not enough room in all the other mdisk groups to take all the
vdisks in the group you want to work with. If there is I would recommend
that you empty the group you want to break up and then perform your
activity and migrate the vdisks back.
You will not know nor is there any way to tell how long this will take. It
all depends on how busy the cluster is. migrations are a lower level
process than metro mirror, flashcopy, and regular writes.
Thank you,
I am unable to boot from disks restored from a known good disk image when using 1-2-mdisk. The restore appears to complete successfully, but I cannot boot from any of the disks. When attempting to boot from the restored disks, I get a blinking cursor in upper left corner, and nothing else. I confirmed that the image is not corrupt by restoring it to a single disk using restoretodisk and booting successfully from that restored disk. I used PTEdit to compare the partition types & other details, and they are identical between the source and destination disks. Any ideas why this is not working? Thanks.
I connected one of the HDDs that will not boot to a PC and examined the file system. It looks right; all the files and directories appear to be present. I suspect the problem must be with the MBR, but do not know how to troubleshoot that. Suggestions? Thanks.
SOLVED! The 1-2-mdisks restore worked using the 2.2.3.10 release, but it may be due to the fact that the earlier release was for amd64 architecture, and I was booting an older, single core CPU with it. I downloaded the i486 version of the current release, and that worked. Thanks!
