I wanted to send out an update on how things were going on the History Web Page.
It's taken longer to get things going than I thought it would.
This is partly due to life issues requiring my attention. My lady and I
have both changed jobs in the last month.
The preliminary setup work is mostly done. No doubt I'll find a few things that need changing as things move along, but for the most part I'm ready to start adding content. I have, in fact, already made a small start in adding content.
Please take a look at what I have begun and let me know what you think. Go to
Ansteorra History and take a look the Crowns and Timeline area. The only areas that have much of anything in them are around 1977 to 1980. It isn't really even the start of a history yet, so much as it is a framework to support a history.
I will be making an announcement on the Ansteorra mailing list soon, to announce what I am doing and to ask for help. If this works the way I want it to, I'll have a large group of people doing research and writing things to send to me, and I will mostly be editing and posting it to the website. If it doesn't work out that way then I'll be doing the research and writing as well, and this will take a lot longer.
Some of the things I will want to include are:
1. Photos of each Crown, preferably taken during their reign.
2. I'd like to reproduce the Kingdom calendar back to the beginning of the Kingdom.
3. A Photograph section in general. Most likely this would be a page that links to various personal photo pages.
4. An audio archive. This would contain recordings of people telling stories about our history.
5. A database of events that can be displayed by name, type, date or hosting group.
6. I would like the database to be able to display the awards given out at each event, but the feasibility of that will depend on whether
or not the OP database can destinguish between awards given at different events on the same date.
7. A list of past Kingdom officers.
8. A page for each Lion of Ansteorra, with a photo, and, where possable, a few words by the Crown who made them a Lion.
9. A Bardic History of Ansteorra, both written and recorded.
This is largely collecting, organizing, and presenting data. During the process I hope to include many stories of what the experienced, what it felt like and what it meant to them.
At some point I will want to start on a narrative history, what happened, why, and what it felt like to live through it. That will come later though. I don't know nearly enough to write that yet.
As you can see, as i've envisioned it this is a very big project. I am really hoping to have a staff of volenteers to help with it.
Please let me know your thoughts about what I have done so far and what I am suggesting. I would prefer to keep discussion on the project in general on this list so that newcomers to the project have access to what has been discussed before, and so we have a record of the History Project. This too is a part of our history.
