Using Ansible for bare metal installation for linux, windows and esx

Hi Team,

 

Curious to know if Ansible can do bare metal installation from scratch by integrating with PXE. The requirement is to install Linux, Windows and VMware from scratch.

 

What I am aiming is to do remote installation for RHEL/SLES/Windows/ESX like the way their native installation techniques of kickstart,… ie, Single approach for remote installation via Ansible.

 

Any inputs are appreciated.

IMO ansible is not made for (bare metal) provisioning.

Use anything (Kickstart, preseed, FAI, MAAS, razor, xCat, Cobbler, opsi,
LTI/ZTI...) that brings you to the point where you can use ansible (most
often: a running SSH server).

Just for you information, I use the Foreman do do bare metal provisioning. With Ansible on top, it's a pretty nice setup.
