I have accomplished to start an instance with an ansible-playbook.
The only issue I had and could not figure out what it is,
In the "volumes:" section i have put "volume_type: gp2".
Even though I have asked for gp2 (after looking at the documentation few times) it start an EBS IO standard.

volumes:
          - device_name: /dev/xvda
            volume_type: gp2
            volume_size: 50
            delete_on_termination: true

Ansible version 1.9.4

The gp2 volume_type is general purpose SSD.  If you want provisioned IOPs, you need to use the volume_type of io1 and set the iops parameter.  Is that what you were asking?

I ran into that too, it works if you also add "device_type: gp2", the volume_type is probably for ansible 2.x
