the API server (galaxy.ansible.com) is not responding, please try again later

Hi all

I'm a new Ansible user (and new to Linux). I am trying to install a role from Galaxy for the first time and getting the error 

the API server (galaxy.ansible.com) is not responding, please try again later

My proxy server is set correctly.  I can ping both http://galaxy.ansible.com and https://galaxy.ansible.com and I can curl the role at https://galaxy.ansible.com/detail#/role/428 with no problem. A curl of galaxy.ansible.com returns a 302 redirect to https://galaxy.ansible.com which I assume is correct

Ansible support cannot find an issue their end. There appears to be little on the web about this issue. A wireshark trace returns nothing obvious.

What can I check next?
