AnonyCon Update! Happy New Year!

Hello AnonyCon Friends!

It is now 2022, and AnonyCon has offered no updates for nearly a year.  And I’m sorry about that, because I am…tired.  This past year was very difficult, but that hardly excuses my complete lack of communication with you all. 

I’m sure you’ve surmised this by now but we will not be having an AnonyCon this January.  HOWEVER, that does not mean that AnonyCon 2022 is not happening, it just means it’s not happening right now. 

So looking ahead, here’s what my plan is:

I am hoping to host a Hot AnonyCon Summer virtual event, most likely in the first weekend of August (exact dates TBD).  Depending on a few factors, we may be treating it as a fundraising event for future in-person conventions, or it can just be a mid-year bit of fun, we’ll see. 

I will also be sending out a Very Important Survey in the next few days that I’m calling AnonyCon: Do or Die.  AnonyCon is at a crossroads right now, and it’s important to me to involve the wonderful AnonyCon community in deciding which way we go:  the Stamford Sheraton shut down permanently in 2020, the world is still very much in the throes of Covid-19, and this convention runs on monofilament margins (see it’s fun because I’m referencing Shadowrun).  As long as this health crisis continues, I do not feel comfortable hosting AnonyCon in person again, and if we do host and nobody shows up AnonyCon will have to close its “doors” permanently so it’s a difficult risk to take.  We also have the added difficulty of needing to find a new venue and negotiating a new contract.  We need a dedicated hotel coordinator to take on this challenge, which we do not have at the moment. 

The AnonyCon: Do or Die survey is intended to take the temperature of the AnonyCon player base, and find out whom (if anyone) is willing or interested to step up to the role of hotel coordinator, or if people would be satisfied with AnonyCon Virtual continuing indefinitely, as well as some other metrics for deciding AnonyCon’s future. 

So that’s the barebones update on this convention.  Thank you all for your patience and understanding about the lack of communication, I will do everything I can to be more up front in the coming months.
