After you add a password to a drawing and save the drawing, the password is required before any program or part of a program can read the data in the drawing, even if the drawing is an external reference. A specific password generally is required to be entered once per session.

For security reasons, connections to Azure file shares are blocked if the communication channel isn't encrypted and if the connection attempt isn't made from the same datacenter where the Azure file shares reside. If the Secure transfer required setting is enabled on the storage account, unencrypted connections within the same datacenter are also blocked. An encrypted communication channel is provided only if the end-user's client OS supports SMB encryption.

This only works if your Windows drive is not encrypted. If you have encrypted it using the storage option of Windows, you won't even be able to mount the volume correctly and edit its content from an external tool to clear the password stored in the SAM registry file, you first need the password.
It may also not work if the encryption password comes from the TPE module which won't allow you to boot from the external drive which was not first allowed to run as it was not signed.
But anyway it's good to signal users that their Windwos password is not a real protection for their data, and that it can be easily cleared in most cases: suppose your PC is stolen (or seized by the police/justice...), they know what they can do easily to enter your drive and get access to all the contents.
Also clearing a password this way may invalidate all access tokens that allow you to use some remote sites or storage that will need a new authorization, because the SAM database will no longer have the necessary access tokens.Your PC will then be "disconnected" from a secure corporate domain and you'll need to contact the domain admin to reauthorize your PC (and fbefore they accept to reconnect you they'll want to inspect your PC, and may force you to resintall it completely).
So don't do that to bypass the protections that have been set in a corporate domain against such personal use of a PC you don't really own and have no right to adminsiter yourself.

If you attempt to open a password-protected drawing from the recent files list, after you have entered the password, instead of the drawing being displayed as normal, a drawing preview is shown. The cursor passes under this preview and it temporarily gets in the way of your current drawing.

In some cases, when you attempt to unzip files from (extract) or view files in a Zip file (.zip or .zipx) a Decrypt dialog will display requesting a password. This indicates that the files in your Zip file have been encrypted.

The password for an encrypted Zip file is set by the person who creates the Zip file at the time it is created. It is also possible to encrypt files in a Zip file after the Zip file is created, but the person choosing to encrypt is the one who sets the password.

When I just got a RAR file from a friend, and prepared to extract it to see the content in RAR archive, I found it asked for a password to extract. If I have gotten RAR password from friend, the problem would be easy. But if both of us don't know or forget encrypted RAR file password, what shoud we do? Now we can talk this problem in two situations and find solutions to extract encrypted RAR file when there is password or not.

If RAR file is encrypted by your friend, probably he/she has the archive password. You can try to ask your friend for rar file password and then use it to extract encrypted rar file with password in compression software like WinRAR.

However, there is a possibility that encrypted RAR file password is forgotten or lost and there is no password backup. When this happens unfortunately, please go on to see the situation 2 which is about how to extract encrypted RAR file without password.

As you see, no matter we have password to open RAR file or not, we can extract encrypted RAR file with the methods above. But it is still necessary to save RAR file password in a safe place, so we can use it when we need.

  1. Open the drawing and click Print (Plot)
  2. Select Universal Document Converter and click Properties
  3. Select Custom Properties on the Device and Document Settings tab and click Custom Properties button in the Access Custom Dialog section
  4. On the Universal Document Converter settings panel, change the size of the page according to your preferences
  5. Change the destination file format to PDF Document
  6. Select Password Protected standard of PDF and enter a password

I decided that the best way to get my password into Mutt was to store my password inside an encrypted GPG file, create a prompt for my GPG password to unlock the encrypted file, and hand the password over to Mutt (actually to the offlineimap command, which I use to synchronize my laptop with the email server).

  • Integrated - Performs SSPI authentication. This option requires no additional configuration here, but the Duo Authentication Proxy server must be a Windows machine joined to the domain that contains your users.
  • NTLMv2 - Performs Windows NTLMv2 authentication. If you select this option you'll need to enter the NTLM domain and NTLM workstation names, and also ensure you have specified the username and password used to connect to your AD domain in the authproxy.cfg when you configured your Duo Authentication Proxy server.
  • Plain - Performs basic authentication. This option provides the widest compatibility. Ensure you have specified the username and password used to connect to your AD domain in the authproxy.cfg when you configured your Duo Authentication Proxy server. We recommend using secure LDAPS or STARTTLS transport to protect sensitive credentials if you select this option.

The user experience is as follows:

  1. User initiates log in to an application protected by Duo SSO.
  2. The application redirects the user to the Duo SSO login page for email address and password.
  3. Active Directory verifies the submitted password and informs Duo SSO the user's password has expired.
  4. Duo SSO informs the user that they must change their expired password after completing two-factor authentication.
  5. User completes Duo authentication and returns to Duo SSO for the password change.
  6. The Duo SSO password reset page shows the user the password requirements you entered during AD authentication source configuration. The user enters their current, expired password, and then can enter and confirm their new password.
  7. If the password change succeeds, the user gets prompted to continue to the application without needing to reauthenticate. If the password change fails, the user may try to reset their password again until they succeed or leave the Duo SSO page without accessing the application.

If expired password resets have been enabled then you can also allow users to change their passwords from Duo SSO at any time. Before entering their username on the Duo SSO login page they can click a help link that will let them access password reset. After providing their current password and completing Duo two-factor authentication to verify their identity, they can enter a new password and then continue to the application. If a user has an existing SSO session (as defined in the Session Duration setting) they won't encounter the proactive warning again untl their next log in with a password after the session expires.

One more problem with encrypted ZIP files: No matter which form of encryption you use, anyone with access to the files can see the name of the files within the archive. If the file names provide sensitive information, a thief could take advantage of that. Of course, they would not be able to open any of the files without the password.

If you decide to employ this feature, you should know that it is indeed secure. In addition to setting a unique password, you can configure other options for the encryption method. From the GUI interface, you must enter a default password in the password entry box in order to access the Advanced Options button, which opens the Advanced Options dialog box shown in Figure 17-2. Quite a few options are available.

From a programmatic aspect, the same object model applies to password locking (aka encryption) as to digital certificates. In fact, it uses the same SecurityParams object to provide the interface for saving an encrypted drawing.

Implementing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) will cause traffic transmitted over the network (including passwords) to be encrypted, allowing for the desired level of security. It is common for clients to use Single Sign On (SSO) and SSL together, but it is possible to use just SSL if only password encryption is necessary.
