Bay City News Service, a 24-hour regional news wire for the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a full-time general assignment reporter to split time between its main office in Oakland and its Contra Costa County bureau in Martinez. Our reporters cover government news, police and fire activity, the courts and other regional news developments. BCN stories are distributed to most major news organizations in the Bay Area, including print, broadcast and web outlets.
Applicants should have some professional reporting experience, knowledge of the geography and issues of the Bay Area, an eye for detail, a solid grasp of spelling, grammar and AP style, and a college degree. They should be energetic and accustomed to juggling many tasks at once. Applicants should be comfortable working under tight deadlines and be able to respond quickly to breaking news. Applicants must have a car for travel for work in Martinez (approximately three days per week).
