Folks, we're getting complaints from people who resent having to wade through messages that have nothing to do with the freelance unit or freelancing in general.

This group is to be used exclusively for freelancers in the PMWG region to talk about relevant issues: pay, work opportunities, Guild Freelancer benefits. Those who insist upon issuing repeated bulletins about other matters are driving members and potential members away. Please show them more respect.

Once again, here are the guidelines. Repeat violators will be removed from the listserv -- something we've had to do only once in seven years, thankfully.

The e-mail discussion group is a place for members and potential members of the Pacific Media Workers Guild freelance unit to ask questions and share ideas and information. It's a tough market, but by working together, freelancers can win vital protections and benefits, and create a more robust marketplace.

Its address is: freelance-medi...@googlegroups.com

Members-only resources are posted on the password-protected section of our Web site, GuildFreelancers.org.

We suggest using the following tags in the subject line of posts:

(intro) - for new members who would like to introduce themselves

(action) - for political action items, such as sunshine or shield laws

(job) - to post or discuss a freelance assignment or job opening

(tech) - for technical questions or answers

(benefits) - to talk about health and liability coverage and other benefits

These tags should allow users to set e-mail filters to help them customize the messages they receive, or which folders those messages go into.

All group members can control their own discussion group settings. To select a daily digest of mail, or to stop getting e-mail from the discussion group, follow the link on the end of one of the discussion group e-mails. Choose "edit my membership" from the right hand column, and then click either "Digest e-mail" or  "No e-mail." The "No e-mail" setting is Web only: You will still be able to log in and read the group on the Web, which is helpful if you use the group only occasionally or want to post something yourself.

Lastly, we frequently diverge in viewpoint and engage in some lively discussions. But we ask participants to avoid name calling, vulgarity and disrespect, and instead maintain a spirit of mutual respect and collegiality.

Thanks, all.

Rebecca RL
