Annif, Finto AI and Data Version Control (DVC)

The National Library of Finland offers a service called Finto AI, which does automated indexing in three languages (Finnish, Swedish and English) using the General Finnish Ontology YSO. Finto AI is based on Annif. 

We have started to use DVC to carry out updates of the machine learning models that Finto AI uses. DVC, Data Version Control, is a tool enabling version control suitable for e.g. training machine learning models. There is extensive documentation about DVC at https://dvc.org/doc. The Annif tutorial also has an exercise that illustrates using DVC with Annif.

The DVC configuration that we have used with Finto AI updates, along with training materials, is now freely available at https://github.com/NatLibFi/FintoAI-data-YSO.
