Thanks TB, I think I am going to go for the format tomorrow but you are
probably right. I have saved so much stuff, when I go to look for
something I can never find it and it will take too long to go through
everything and clean it out. Think I am better off just to start over and
be a little more selective about what I keep.

Not true, you can still download it from MS........Try the "repair" option first.

I was afraid someone was going to tell me to do that. I've only reformatted successfully once and Debberinski was holding my hand as I did it. Looks like I'm going to have to give it a whirl by myself. (I'm crying here, so if the words look blurry you'll know why) Is it true that you have to have a copy of IE5.1 on disk as there is no download site now? I don't have it on disk and want active desktop so do I have to go back to IE4 and then upgrade 4.1 and 5.0 to get it?

Sp 1 will change your version of OE to 5.5, but leave IE as 5.0.........

I downloaded Service Pack 5.01 from the website as an upgrade to the 4.something that reinstalled with my Win98. It's now working as it should, but minus the print preview...I liked that feature, too.

Jean...Maybe you'll have to do what I just did....reformat to rid your computer of IE 5.5 and get the entire 5.0 back. I was getting the same error, and I could not go from one website to the next without opening a new IE window each time. I tried to go back to my previous version, but it had lost the ability to add components and the repair tool was gone. There was nothing in Control Panel Add/Remove pertaining to MSIE at all! My only option was to reformat. But I took the opportunity to clean up my files and update all my drivers, and now this puppy is HUMMIN' !!!

Oh...I lost my old modem driver after the first reformat (after an entire evening of downloading updates and programs) and it would not reinstall from the Quick Restore disk....which was supposed to restore all drivers. I ended up having to do another reformat. Two days of work, but all is fine now.
