Hi everyone, I am so glad I found you guys!! Thank you Andrew for directing me here :) I used to be a member on the G+ site too and I made the Hungarian translation for AM. I have been using AnMoney for 9+ years, I have more than 17000 transactions in my book... So. I REALLY don't want to move from AnMoney, but it seems it will be inevitable within a year, I am starting to experience unexpected crashes :( I am on Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
I exported my book from AnM. I have about 10 accounts, an immense number of splits and a transfers, 160+ projects. My main concern is being able to track expenses by projects (my husband is a carpenter :) ). So I did the export. Played around with the csv file, but importing the csv into BC resulted in a HUGE mess. It had zero idea about my balances :( Now I am experimenting with Expense IQ, but I really do not think it will be possible for me to migrate to another program. Most likely I will have to start from scratch which is a HUGE bummer for me :(

Anyway, just wanted to check in.

I am still trying to find the best alternative for AnM. The features my new app will HAVE TO HAVE are:

tracking expenses by categories AND also assign them to individual projects
split transactions (and to be able to assign each split to individual projects)
transfers
balance adjustment
balance forecast for at least a year
recurring expenses (with custom recurrence)

Thanks guys. We should try to find a developer, who would adopt the program and start maintenance on it :)

Hello Zsuzsanna,

I was also afraid anMoney would stop working completely one day so I was looking for alternatives. I need more currencies, which limits me a little bit (Expense IQ cannot do that). So I have tried Blueconis and MoneyWiz 3. MoneyWiz is closer to anMoney, but some functionality is missing there too.

Currently I am using Pixel phone with Android Q (beta) and anMoney works there with the same bugs as in Android 9. I mean crashing after "GoTo" and "Make Recurring" commands.

I found this less limitating me than using some alternative, so I am still on anMoney. I don't know when Huawei will update your phone, but you should be ok with anMoney in Android Q too.

You say you have unexpected crashes there, but I have only the expected ones, so it doesn't seem to be caused by Android version. There may be something special in Huawei system.

Regards

Petr

Hi Petr! I am on AnMoney too, but I really want to have a backup plan, for when it starts not working... :) I like Expense IQ a lot. I may just do double work for a couple weeks, and use both AnM and EIQ simultaneously to see all the functions of EIQ and maybe contact their support if there is a functionality I really miss. It does seem to be a really nice program but I could not import my data into that one either... :(

Running anMoney on a Sony XZ Premium on latest android, I don't have any real issues.
I had a problem a few months ago, but this was found to be due to having 2 user accounts on the handset.
There are peculiarities with huawei phones, as I can't run some launchers on those handsets, so maybe some libraries in anMoney conflict with the Huawei core operating system.
As for the way forward, this has been discussed my times, and another developer picking this up and running with it is a no-go. I understand the developer won't part with the source code/may no longer have it. Some of the libraries are no longer available/incompatible with latest android.
The only practical way forward is through Bluecoins. The developers do listen to worthwhile suggestions (they've recently included splits on import).
Importing into Bluecoins is possible, if you follow Bluecoins' field names exactly as they suggest.
Bluecoins is still maintained and the developers are accessible and responsive (they're in the Philippines) so I'd stick with Bluecoins. If/when AnMoney finally dies, I'll just have to learn to adjust to it, but like everyone else here, I just keep using AnMoney because old habits die hard.
Lastly, it'd be worth considering a crowd-funding project/GoFundMe development, but that's down to demand in the end.

yes, thanks Mark... :( I may just keep an older Android phone for the sole purpose of running AnMoney on it :) That may be a nice solution :)

I'd omitted Expense IQ during this years "massive alternative evaluation exercise", because it uses a subscription model, but having reinstalled it they've an offer on (which I suspect *everyone* will receive). £20 for unlimited use. Half tempted although I have already purchased BC. EIQ looks promising (again), even though the UI seems a little "overdone"! Can't beat AnM's simplicity and speed...

Well I am back to square 1. After playing around with Expense IQ and Bluecoins for weeks, I just love AnMoney even more. It really does everything I need. I will just keep an old Android phone with AnM on it, in case it stops working. But it works fine (except for some unexected crashes) but those happen rarely...

Exactly my thoughts too Zsuzsanna - despite the current bugs, I will cling on as long as I can to aM. I export to CSV/QIF far more regularly now though!

You might want to consider My Budget Book - UI isn't very attractive but I like it. Not tried importing into it yet, but if it doesn't work with importing I can't have it. I am not prepared to start over clean (no data imported) with any app, so right now it's BC or EIQ. Not tried EIQ much and that lifetime £19.99 offer comes and goes. As you say, as long as aM works, I will keep using it. Don't feel a need to jump, until that inevitable NOTHING WORKS ANYMORE date. Could be years off, hopefully.

Greetings

How secure are these apps with no fixes (always worry me). I’ve started trying out Moneywiz 3, imported my records perfectly (QIF). Appearance can be customized as well, and it’s free to try (with adverts) though you need to pay if you need to sync with other devises (or even download transactions direct from bank- if bank is supported).
