Condolences to Panta Family

Senior economist Dr Raghab Dhoj Panta passed away at 1 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at his residence in Dill Bazaar, Kathmandu, Nepal. Late Panta, 66, was suffering from kidney problem for the last one month. He was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday itself.

 

Panta worked for a number of national and international institutions. He also performed his duties as the acting vice-chairman and member of National Planning Commission - the apex policy making body.

 

A renowned expert in monitory economics, Panta also worked as a research officer at Nepal Rastra Bank and economist at International Monetary Fund. The author of several books on economics, including The Flow of Funds in Nepal, Panta used to write regularly in local papers on economic issues. A white paper on national economy issued by Dr Panta during direct rule of former king Gyanendra had drawn public attention. He had completed his PhD on Inflation in Asia from Carleton University, Canada, in 1979. He is survived by a wife, a son and a daughter. His son Ranjan and his wife Pintu is my personal friends.

 

Dr. late Raghab Panta's brother, Dr Prahlad Panta is a very well known to all of us and he is and his wife Ms. Bindu Pant is our friends, yours, Nepali Community and ANMA. He is one of the first Nepali who came to America about 34 years ago. 

 

Dr. Pant is an academician, entrepreneur and community leader, who came to the United States as a student in 1976. Dr. Pant is a Past President of the Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA). He is the Lead Founder of Nepalese Americas Council (NAC), which is currently renamed as NRN National Coordination Council of USA also known as NRN America. Two years ago, Dr. Pant and his wife Bindu established a non-profit, charitable organization called “Prahlad & Bindu Pant Orphans Foundation” with their personal funds of US $150,000. The Foundation provides financial support for the upbringing and education of orphans in Nepal.

 

Dr. Prahlad Panta is currently an adviser of ANMA and NASeA. It goes without saying that he is a great asset to Nepali Community and NASeA.

 

Please join me in prayer for the departed, “May his soul rest in peace.” Let us express our heartfelt condolence to Panta family, “May almighty God bless the grieving family with exceptional strength in this difficult time.”
