I’ve had 5 ankle fusion surgeries due to staph eating up all the cartilage! I had Brooks with a roll bar that I wore for a long time. I have worn many different special made shoes and inserts..presently have thr HOKA’s you described!!! My foot rolls to thr outside due
To the inexperienced young nurse that put my first cast on while doctor was out of the room…BUT BACK TO YOUR QUESTION.  THE VERY BEST THING I HAVE WORN IS A LACE UP SHORT ARIET BOOT!  I am on my 2nd pair!  I can ride my horse up and down hills causing excess pressure on the ankle!  These boots do not need any breaking in!  They are wide enough in the average width… THE BOOT FEELS SO GOOD AND ARE LIGHTWEIGHT!  Nope they don’t go with dresses etc… but I try to wear jeans or leggings…. But since I am old and not
Worried about looks as much as I am about being able to walk.. I wear them to the grocery store with cropped pants!!   The style #10004134(70027). I get the waterproof.  I found cheaper on Amazon but Tractor Supply Carries them but limited.  This boot keeps my foot flat and supported!  Light as any tennis shoe!!!!  BEST OF LUCK!!

Hi everyone, I'm 3 1/2 months post-total fusion and am in an ankle brace and wearing Hoka shoes with a stabilization insert for now. My swelling is persistent but manageable. I am an otherwise healthy and active 60 yr. old with normal range BMI. Has anyone found shoes they LOVE, or perhaps inserts that can be put into different shoes over time? Thanks!

I have found that any running or walking shoe with good support works well. Right now I am wearing New Balance when I take my walks. I am 4 years post fusion surgery and, other than some numbness in the toes, am doing very well.

They sell women's shoes as well. They have wide and extra wide in this particular shoe. I got 2 for 1 last November. They always have sales. The normal foot slips in but I still have to 'help' my fused foot get in the shoe. They last quite awhile as well.

Cheers

Cool, thanks Chuck! They are less expensive than the Hoka’s and I’ve worn men’s shoes before so I may check them out.

I have found that any running or walking shoe with good support works well. Right now I am wearing New Balance when I take my walks. I am 4 years post fusion surgery and, other than some numbness in the toes, am doing very well.

Thanks!
