Having trouble hosting multiplayer games over wifi network. Details are as follows:

1) Both devices are Samsung Galaxy S7. Also switched one device to iPad air. Still doesn't work. Also tried Galaxy Tab A, still doesn't work.
2) Both devices connected to same home network. Both devices have Bluetooth enabled. Both devices can independently see and connect to any supercar.
3) On first device, clicked 'start a game', then 'open play', then 'race'. Tried all other open play options, still doesn't work.
4) on first device, pressed 'select vehicle' and selected groundshock. Device says, 'waiting for players'.
5) on second device, selected 'join a game'. Device says, 'your device is ready', and 'waiting for invite'. Then says, 'one player must start a game and invite you commander!'
6) First device does not see the second player at all. Still says waiting for players.
7) tried this at a friend's house, same result.
8) of note, friend has a dual band router. We decided to connect to the 5Ghz band. Once we did this, could see other players.
9) why are players unavailable on single band, 2.4Ghz broadcast? Is there a workaround? Is there a fix or configuration that will work?

Thanks everyone, in advance.

First, congrats on your excellent trouble-shooting and detailed assessment.

One quick note for others reading this: Assuming one player has selected "Join" and one "Start" from their respective home screens, and if you're still seeing this issue, then the most likely cause is that the router is broadcasting in dual-band, and one device is picking up 2.4GHz, the other 5GHz. Please contact Customer Care (anki.com/support) for assistance.

In this specific case, you've already confirmed you have a single band 2.4GHz model. So, here are more esoteric causes. The router should have:
- multicast support
- wireless client isolation

I've only heard of these settings being an issue in the workplace, never for home routers, so not sure how helpful it is. Given that you're working with supported devices, you may contact our Customer Care team for further assistance. Hours and options can be found at: anki.com/support

Thanks for your post.

My problem is similar. I have an iPhone and an iPad, both running the latest Anki Overdrive app. We have the Overdrive starter plus extension track. Previously we were able to play two-player games, but now, whichever of us starts the game, and the other joins a game, the starter sees the joiner's icon but when you tap "invite", nothing happens. Very frustrating!
Both players have completed all the qualifiers and challenge races individually, if that makes any difference.
Any ideas?

Full detail:
iPhone & iPad both on ios 10.3.1. Both running Anki Overdrive 2.6.0. Both bluetooth enabled. Both connected to router.
Player 1 starts game, selects "Open Play" and "Race". Selects car.
Player 2 selects "Join Game"
Player 1 selects "Add Commander". Player 2's icon appears on screen.
Player 2 has "Waiting for invite" notification.
Player 1 taps player 2's icon to invite.
And that's it - nothing further happens.Player 2 can not join game.
Frustrating.
