At some point a new version of the overdrive app came out (v1.2.1).  since then, I cannot host or join an open play game with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4.  This used to work fine and was a lot of fun, but now if I host a game, when I try to connect another phone (note2, or HTC droid dna) to my game, my phone says:
App Update Required
Sam's version of OverDrive is newer than yours ().  Please ensure all players are on the latest version of overdrive in order to play together.

note, that's verbatim, it doesn't list a version in the parenthesis if I host from my phone.

if I try to host from "Sam's " phone, it says:
Player Update Required
Phil's version of Overdrive (1.0.0) is older than yours (1.2.0).  Please ensure all players are on the latest version of Overdrive in order to play together.

I've checked for updates and uninstalled and reinstalled on both phones with no luck.  I checked the settings screen, and both phones say they're running "Version: 1.2.1" in the bottom right corner.  please help. we didn't buy these for single player mode.

I have the same problem. The problem with the app version went away after stopping the apps and clearing cache data. But now no cars are shown as available.

Also having the same issue.  I have verified that the versions on both phones are the same.

Finally got mine working, did what one of the other guys did.  Cleared my cache, and also cleared the data.  Now it works fine.

Here are the official steps:

1. Make sure you have an online profile* for OD before beginning the steps, and that its status says "Connected, synced." (See below.) This is a critical step!!
2. Go into the device's Application Manager.
3. Scroll and find Anki OVERDRIVE and select it.
4. Use the Clear cache button, then Clear data button to clear both.
5. Use the uninstall button to uninstall Anki OVERDRIVE
6. Go to Google Play Store and re-download and install Anki OVERDRIVE.

*To preserve your data first:
1. Launch the Overdrive app, then tap your avatar image (upper left corner of the home screen).
2. If you see a "Sign up / Login" button, tap it then follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Once your status shows "Connected / Synced", you can proceed with the instructions above.

Our sincere apologies for this issue! If you need additional support or have questions, please contact Customer Care: support.anki.com

update:  new version came out on Feb 8, 2016.  v 1.2.2 fixed my issues.  no cache clear or data wipe needed.  Thanks Anki!

I followed these steps, uninstalled Anki Overdrive as recommended, and now I can't re-install Overdrive because the Play Store says it is incompatible with my Android phone.  This is unbelievable.

Anki needs to fix this ASAP.

Yeah, that sounds pretty awful (and highly unusual fwiw). What's your specific device and OS version?

I am in the exact same boat. I took the 1.2.2 update and now 2 of my 3 phones that were previously working no longer work and the kids can only play it single player with my phone when I'm at home.  I've scoured the internet for an APK for 1.2.1 to revert back but have been unsuccessful. At the moment this game is useless until this gets fixed.
Anki are you listening?  Can you make the 1.2.1 apk available on your website for us that are unable to use the game at all now?

We are listening, and I agree that sounds awful! We'd love to help correct this, but need more information, specifically: what device model and version of Android do you have?

Hey guys - Not sure if things are resolved, but in case not (or for others reading this):
  • If the only issue you're seeing is the one described in this original post, the fix is to download the latest version of our app from Google Play or our Support site.
  • If you previously could download from Google Play, but suddenly can't (like @Highlighter) - we haven't seen or heard of this before, so we'll need to know your device model to investigate with Google. Meanwhile, you can download directly from our Support page, here
  • Besides the above 2 posts, we're not getting other complaints of this issue (after version 1.2.1), so we'll definitely want to work with you directly if you're still seeing this issue! Please contact: support.anki.com.
Thanks again for your posts. We do want to help!
