Polytonic Greek on Ankidroid is having a small issue.
On Anki web Polytonic Greek works fine. On Ankidroid Polytonic Greek also works fine EXCEPT for my typed answer after I click submit.
Here is an example:
You can see I entered αὐτός. If I click "Show Answer" this is what I get.
You can see that the ὐ is not recognized in my submission, and gets turned into a square. You can also see that a random square is added at the end of the entry which I didn't insert.
What makes this odd is that clearly my android phone recognizes the character ὐ otherwise it wouldn't be able to display the character as part of the backside of the card.
Also, here is what I typed on my phone: αὐτός And here is what the backside of the card is: αὐτός Using
https://unicodelookup.com/ I can see that these are the exact same characters being used. So the issue doesn't have to do with the characters being different. They are the same characters. I can further confirm this fact by the next test I did (and which I'll show you). This is where it gets even odder, and why I think this must be an issue with Ankidroid that needs to be changed.
This is what happens when I click "Show Answer" without typing in a response. In other words, I am leaving my answer blank, and then clicking "Show Answer." This is what happens:
You can see that the ὐ still gets turned into a box. This is Ankidroid populating the character that I should have entered, but the character isn't recognized and is turned into a box. Yet, just below you can see Ankidroid outputting the entire word αὐτός correctly as part of the backside of the card.
It seems like after I click "Show Answer" the answer submission field uses a different character set. This is based on the fact that the backside of the card recognizes the characters. Also, the answer submission field BEFORE I click submit can show the characters. But after I click submit, (even when I leave the field empty) some of the characters are unrecognized.
If anybody has any idea for why this is happening, or what I might try changing to fix this, I would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Thomas
Please note that if I submit as an answer a character with a varia (ὴ) or tonos (ή), everything works fine on Ankidroid. However, it is when a character has a perispomeni (ῆ) or psili (ἠ) or dasia (ἡ) that it is having the issues I describe above.
