I'm going to be extremely busy for at least the next few months, so I'd be highly appreciative if there were any volunteers who were willing to handle the support forum here. Ideally I'd like for several non-developers (or casual developers) to step up and help us respond to users on a daily basis by answering questions like "how do I do X" and also guiding them on how to make proper bug reports and enhancement requests to github when appropriate, with an emphasis on getting all of the typical information (that is often omitted) which developers usually require to take any action. Please reply here (or privately if you prefer) if you are interested in contributing to the project in this way, it would be a huge help.

Hi,
I have more time again now and would be happy to help! :)

Thanks a lot @eginhard, the help is much appreciated!
I've now added you as a moderator of this mailing list, and also added you to the core developers team on Github, as you've contributed a lot to the project, particularly this year.

Are there are any other volunteers? I'll leave this as a sticky thread as we are always in desperate need of volunteers to help out with the mailing list. Anyone with any skill level is welcome.

That's awesome, @Eginhard!

Back when you were working on Material Design, I found you to be a pleasure to communicate with.  Your thinking was clear, you were open minded, and your were concerned with the experience of the users.  (I said something similar long ago, but since I posted it after you left, you may have missed it.)

Now you are generously volunteered to be help people out with questions, and you are already having a positive impact.   From my point of view, I am hoping that you become an advocate for the users you help - for the requests which seem reasonable to you.  (As opposed to, say, more of an apologist for policies 'handed down from above'.)

@Tim

Disclaimer: This could easily be interpreted as  a form of criticism, but its intention is to create a better solution.

People who might otherwise help may be inhibited by this requirement, which I'd assume to initially be 'by design':

> help us respond to users on a daily basis by answering questions

I mean, obviously anyone can just help out at any time, but if the group desires committed responders - and now that Eginhard has the 'daily' part covered -  maybe having a few  'committed though not every day' responders would be a good supplement to Eginhard's daily commitment.

This might get more people.  Even when I was more active - lets be honest here: cheerfully and patiently! - helping people out in the forums I couldn't have done it every day.

Related idea, though possibly over thinking it: maybe volunteers could commit to being available specified days of the week, getting every day well covered while also allowing people to be part time.

@js

Good point, I appreciate the constructive feedback!

Users / developers who are able to be active here on a non-daily (casual) basis are also always in demand. In this case however, it's not necessary to reply here, please just go ahead and start replying to users whenever you have some spare time! The more you help out with technical support, the more time developers have for working on AnkiDroid.

Hi, I've been using Anki fairly intensively for about 8 years now and love the new design.

One thing I'm finding really frustrating though is the smaller answer buttons (show answer, again, hard, easy, good). I find myself having to hit the button again fairly regularly, especially on the move when a bus/train/car is jostling about a bit. I've got relatively slim fingers, so imagine others are probably having similar or worse problems.

Is it possible for a fix to return to the old sizes? We're talking about a very small amount of space given the size of modern smartphones, but it would make a big difference to functionality.

You can increase the size of the answer button by going to Settings -> Reviewing -> Answer Button Size. You can make them twice as big. Hope that helps!

Also, you may want to try using Gestures (Settings -> Gestures). I've read somewhere that swiping gestures are always more sensitive to the user's intention than taps are. Swiping while on the move should be more comfortable and accurate than jabbing around at buttons.

Liz, you're a legend. I think I've got into that comfort zone from using Anki so long that it doesn't even occur to me to try new things with it! I'll give swiping a go. Thank you!

Hi Eginhard, Tim and everyone.

I prepared a video about how to type in answer in Anki. Video is in Turkish. I will try to help and give support for AnkiDroid in Turkish as far as I have time for it. There is so little document in Turkish for Anki. I will try to make Anki "how to" videos in Turkish in my YouTube channel.

By the way is there a easy way to follow forum on my cell phone, like an android app for it?

thank you all for your helps

Hi Sinan,

thanks a lot for your help, it's very much appreciated!

Google Groups doesn't work very well on mobile unfortunately. What I did was change the subscription settings to receive an email for every new message and set up a filter, so that all the emails don't clutter my inbox. This way you can interact with the group through your favourite email app.
