Hello,

The version of AnkiDroid currently in the Google Play Store requires Bluetooth. Is it possible your device does not have it?

This will change in the next release.

I bought a tablet specifically so I could download AnkiDroid and have it available to me on the go...but the Google Play store says it is incompatible with my device.  I am running Android 4.0 on a HKC P771A.  Using AnkiWeb won't work because I won't always be connected to wi-fi and I need an offline solution.  Any suggestions?

So far it looks like AnkiDroid 2.0 beta20 is working though I did have an issue with the database becoming corrupted when I ran it at the same time as another application.  I do wish there was a stable release that I could use, but hopefully soon there will be.  I had previously stuck to Anki 1.2.8 because I knew that I would be migrating to an Android tablet soon, but just made the leap to Anki 2...I guess I picked the wrong tablet because my device does not have Bluetooth.

The version in the Google Play Store incorrectly requires Bluetooth.
It is not actually required for AnkiDroid; that was a mistake when it was released.
When the new version comes out, it will not require Bluetooth, so you do not
have the wrong tablet :), but it is a bug with AnkiDroid.

If you want I can give you a 1.1.3 version (like the one in the Google Play Store)
that does not require Bluetooth, but you should have to switch back to Anki 1.2 on
the desktop as well, which means you would loose some of your progress, as
Anki does not support downgrading as far as I know.

I think (I hope anyway) that I will be able to get by with the Anki beta that I have downloaded.  I'll keep using it and if it gets bad enough, maybe I'll switch back.  So far, so good (or at least not bad).

Hi Psionlogic,

Maybe it is only 5 minutes, but:
- It would pretty much force all users to re-download the app, which takes bandwidth and time.
- There is always the potential to screw something up.

The fix is already in the "_parallel" branch, though.
Maybe we could even release the parallel APK to Google Play as "AnkiDroid legacy for Anki 1.x" or something.

Cheers!

Apologies for stating the obvious... but it thats all it is wouldn't it take like 5min to resubmit to google play with the correct settings?

@sngourd - I'm pretty sure there's a software/hack that can allow your device to install apps that normally won't work with your device. You'll have to search for it though as I don't remember where I read it

Before I installed the latest Anki 2 Beta, I tried installing the AnkiDroid 1.1.3_parallel.apk, but I could not get it to do anything.  I sent in error reports every time I tried to use it, so possibly you received those (I think I tried both apps on or around 11/23 when I sent my first message in this thread).  It crashed on me constantly when I was trying to load decks.  I even tried to put my .anki decks on a microUSB and load them directly (I created the directories and sub-directories that the program said it reads from on a card, and put the decks in there), and that didn't work either.  So I downloaded the Anki 2 Beta and that has been working, with some problems.  I might probably go back to AnkiDroid 1.1.3 at this point if I could get it to work.
