Hi,

I had a few questions about AnkiDroid that I couldn't find answered in
the forum.

Does AnkiDroid allow you to mark and suspend cards?
Can you Undo an answer or edit to a card?

From reading this forum and the standard Anki forum, I get the feeling
that a few people, like myself, are trying to decide which type of
phone to get (iPhone or Android OS) based on their ability to use Anki
on it. It would be great to have a more detailed list of the
abilities of AnkiDroid on the wiki. A few other features I'd be
interested in knowing about:
does AnkiDroid preserve the font and color scheme on the desktop
client? Or are they adjustable on AnkiDroid?
Also, is it possible to have decks with various intervals? Can you
add a card to the deck?

Anyway, thanks to you all for working on this project!

Hi MFO!
I answered below, based on the current development version:

Mark a card (I guess you mean tags?):
Not yet

Suspend a card:
Yes

Undo an answer:
Not yet, even though the code is written

Edit a card:
Yes

Preserve the font and color scheme on the desktop client
If the scheme is card-specific, AnkiDroid will embed them within the
HTML and it will appear on the screen.

Are font and color scheme adjustable on AnkiDroid?
Not yet

Is it possible to have decks with various intervals?
Do you mean this? http://ichi2.net/anki/wiki/DeckProperties#Advanced
AnkiDroid uses these settings, but there is no dialog to modify them
within AnkiDroid.

Can you add a card to the deck?

Not yet

That's it, to the best of my knowledge.
I may be wrong on some points, please anybody correct me :-)
All of the "Not yet" features would actually be relatively easy to implement.
Thanks for your interest!

Dear Nicolas,

Thanks for your answers. This sounds great!

By mark a card, I mean the feature where you press the yellow star and
it tags the fact with Marked. I use this when I wish to edit a card
later, or look up some fact related to it. For instance, if I just
want to check the spelling of a word in a sentence, I'll mark the
card. The spelling in this case may not be too important, but it's
just something I want to look up. Anyway, for now, I could use the
Suspend feature. Or, I might edit the card and add a symbol like ♯♯
to make it easy to find later.

The Undo feature will be a welcome addition. I hope that is
implemented soon since I'm terrible with touchscreens!

As for the deck intervals, yes that's indeed what I was asking. I
have one deck that I use when I need to cram. It has much shorter
intervals. For me, this would be the best deck to utilize AnkiDroid,
since I could review the deck during brief pauses in my day. It's
great to hear that I can have both my decks on my phone, and that they
can have different study intervals!

As for the color scheme and font question, please allow me to give a
few examples to see what the possibilities are:
I have several models in my deck.
Some have as many as 5 fields.
All my cards have a black background.
Each model has a different text color, and I've included a small .png
image specific to each model to help me quickly identify them while
studying. So my German cards display: <img src="germanBanner.png"><br>
%(German)s This is a picture of the German flag, and each model has
its own banner.

Does AnkiDroid support these features?

Thanks again!

p.s. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy an Android phone now. I found a
HTC Hero on sale. PLease let me know if you think it's worth
considering any other phones. The Hero seems pretty good even though
it's a late model, and it's affordable for me. The Samsung Galaxy
looks pretty similar and is 30€ cheaper. Thanks.

How Nicolas said, if the background and text color and the image were
card specific, they would be shown on AnkiDroid but if they are
specific to the model I am afraid they will not work yet.

Anyway, if you want to be sure you could send us a deck with this
characteristics and we can try it for you.

About your future purchase, if you don't want to spend a lot of money
in one of the last Android devices (like the HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC
Legend or the Nexus One) I totally recommend you the HTC Hero. I own
one and although it is a little old now, I think it is a great device.
And now it even has Android 2.1 (we will have to wait for a Froyo
rom :P)

Cheers!
