Import almost never works...

Hi there,

For a long time, my app has greatly struggled to import decks. I have just been trying to import a well-known and oft-used deck to learn Chinese and after a 7+hour wait it was on 52% cards imported and 0% on the other metrics...

Then I got the usual error message along the lines of "AnkiDroid has encountered an problem; sending message to Developers".

Below is the debug info from my app; would you be able to help me with this or advise a little?

Hi there! The problem is not related at all to how well known a deck is, it is related to the number of cards in the deck. The current import does not handle large numbers of cards well, as you have discovered.

You can either try the latest alphas with the "new backend" enabled (https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases) and try import again, or you can import to Anki Desktop (free), then sync to AnkiWeb (free) then sync down to AnkiDroid - the sync mechanism is different than the import mechanism, and it is able to handle new decks coming in even if they are quite large, though syncing the media related to the deck may take a few attempts before it is all in sync
