Hey all,

So, I recently got the $50 Fire for Christmas, and I promptly put Google Play on it to broaden my options.  I didn't root it, though, so it's still running its normal OS.

While I've been flabbergasted at how well the thing performs, one thing I can't figure out is this really weird font size problem I'm having.  I make Japanese flashcards for myself with a Firefox add-on called "Rikaisama," and while the cards scale font size perfectly on iOS, for some reason, only part of my cards scale with Ankidroid (it's on the latest version, btw).  As you can tell with the images, some cards scale perfectly (I have it set to 200%)... while others show the front with scaled text, and then the default size for the back.  Rebooting/re-installing doesn't seem to help.  These flashcards were all generated with the same program too, which makes this whole mess seem even weirder. I can't narrow down a single differentiating factor between the cards that do scale and the cards that don't, so I'm sort of at a loss here.

Help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Hello,

Could you send me a copy some of the cards in your deck that are giving you trouble (as an apkg file, exporting from AnkiDroid or Anki Desktop).
I can have a look and try to reproduce.

Here's a sample from that deck that should let you see the problem, although this issue has affected my other decks as well.  Off the top of my head, you should be able to see an example of which cards work and which don't from just the first ten that display in the card browser.  For instance, the cards for "iikaesu" and "daiben" have the scaling issue, whereas "ibiru" (the one that worked from my first post) and a few others that I didn't include seem to be the only ones that work.  For reference, these cards all have romanization attached to them, so you'll be able to search for them just by inputting the word as I wrote in quotation marks above.

I really appreciate your help!

Hello,

I tested this on a my own device and the scaling is working fine.

I guess it might be related to the WebView used by the Kindle Fire.
If anyone with that device could check, it would be appreciated.

I also cannot see anything wrong with the card template, so it is
unclear what might be going wrong here. I will investigate further
when I get a chance.

Really?  That's really weird then, especially considering that some work and some don't for me.

Out of curiosity, would it make any difference that I downloaded this from the Google Play Store?  I heard the Amazon Appstore version was a little old, so I figured that would be the best shot.  If this does have anything to do with the "WebView" thing you mentioned, would that be something that could be changed?

Once again, I truly appreciate your help.

Actually, I seem to have found a bit of a workaround, but... I'm still not sure why this is the case.

When I change my Kindle's default font size to "Large," font scaling works perfectly, but when I switch it back to normal, it's back to how it was at the start with some working and others not.  I don't mind using large font, but I would like to know what's causing the glitch on the normal size if I could.

The Amazon appstore now has a recent version of AnkiDroid as well, so this shouldn't be an issue. Any issues with the WebView are beyond our control since it is a system app. You could check that you have an up-to-date version (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview&hl=en) and maybe search for any known WebView issues on the Kindle Fire.
