Announcement: Increasing minimum Android version from 2.3 to 4.0

Dear all,

Starting from AnkiDroid 2.9, the minimum Android version for AnkiDroid will be increased to v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

All previous version of AnkiDroid (including 2.8.x) will continue to be available for install via APK. See the wiki for instructions on how to do this.

We will probably put out one last maintenance release of AnkiDroid (v2.8.3) soon containing the current unreleased bug-fixes.

All users still on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (about 0.3% at the time of writing), are encouraged to upgrade to a newer version of Android ASAP, as the operating system was officially deprecated by Google in February 2017.
