Hello. When I want to download Anki via Google Play it shows a red text message: "This app isn't available for your device cause it was made for older android versions".

Using Galaxy A73 5G, One UI 5.1.

Hi,

Is the following "Join the beta" section still shown on the page of Play Store app on your device?

Hello,

I have the same problem. It does show the beta option, but even if I join the beta testers, the same error still shows that AnkiDroid was not developed for Android 13.

Sincere regards,
Nguyen

Hi Nguyen,

I see. Thank you.

Could you please try and join the following alpha tester group and let me know if the error message disappears and downloading becomes possible?

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ankidroidalphatesters

(The registration will take a few minutes.)

Best wishes,
Yuki

Hi Yuki,

Thanks for your quick answer! I joined the beta testers in the app, joined the alpha tester group afterwards and waited for 15 mins, but the Google Play Store does not seem to register that I joined group, it still says I am a beta tester.

Best regards,
Nguyen

Thank you, too!

I guess that Play Store keeps saying you are a beta tester even after you join the alpha tester group, so the apparent treatment itself isn't a problem. It actually says "You're a beta tester for this app. Future updates will include beta versions" on my device even now though I am an alpha (and beta) tester.

Is the error message, "This app isn't available for your device because it was made for an older version of Android", still shown now? I expect that the message disappears and you can download AnkiDroid beta version now. That version is supposed to be currently available to all alpha testers and 20% of beta testers as a phased measure.

Ah ok, I see, thank you :)

Unfortunately, the error message is still shown, I also reverted the steps (for being an alpha tester) and did it again (beta in Play Store, wait until it finishes, join the alpha Google group), but it still does not work. :(

>Unfortunately, the error message is still shown,

That is a slightly unexpected outcome for me. Thank you for the precious feedback.

I'm still not sure, but you mean that after the confirmation you tried a bit different steps from the first time? In any case, I think you are now a tester of the groups through appropriate steps. The outcome might be a matter of registration time. I would appreciate it if you would keep the membership and check the state of the message tomorrow again and let me know the result.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant that I undid all the steps to become a normal user again, and then I tried to become an alpha tester a second time by following the steps in the guide (which were becoming a beta tester and then joining the alpha Google group).

Alright, then I will leave everything as it is and answer you tomorrow, thank you, I really appreciate it! :)

Hello,

I have the same error. It is still shown, but I still cannot download it even if I join the beta testing.

Sincere regards,

Nguyen

Hi,

Thank you so much for the check and the report. I see.

Currently, some issue related to Google's policy for newer versions of Android seems to be blocking newly downloading the current released version of AnkiDroid (2.15.6) from Play Store to devices with newer Android versions.

I expected newly joining the beta and alpha tester groups would unblock downloading AnkiDroid (beta), but it apparently doesn't so at least in your case. Thank you again for the precious information.

As an alternative, you can download the latest pre-release version from the following development page: https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases/tag/v2.16.0beta1

Also, the current officially-released-on-Play-Store version is here: https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases/tag/v2.15.6

Best wishes,
Yuki

Same here, I am getting the same message on multiple devices. Is Anki discontinued?
