Hello,

The difference between a card and a note is the following:
- A note is a set of related information; for example, a French noun, its gender, and its English translation. In French, a noun always has a gender (male or female) and it is important to know the gender to be able to use the word correctly, so you might want to also study the gender of the noun.
- A card is what you actually review; for example, a card might have the French noun on one side and its English translation on the other; another card might have the French noun on one side and its gender. This is because the translation and the gender can be studied independently and there might be words for which you know the translation very well but you keep forgetting the gender. It is often best to keep your cards limited to testing a single bit of information.

When you suspend a card, you suspend only that particular card, not other card made from the same note; for example, you might want to suspend the noun/gender card but not the noun/translation one because you figured out the gender is wrong and want to fix it before you continue studying that card.

When you suspend a note, you suspend all the cards associated with that note; for example, you might want to suspend both the noun/translation and noun/gender card for a particular word, because the word is too advanced for your current level.

I hope this helps,
-Flavio

I upgraded to the new version (2.0) on my android and am totally confused by the options to "suspend card" as well as to "suspend note." The manual wasn't helpful and states a note is the new term for a fact. But isn't this the same as a card? Would be grateful if anyone can clarify.

Just to clarify, each card always corresponds to a note.
So you must have notes in your deck, otherwise there would
be no cards in it.

In the simplest of set up each note corresponds to a single card.

For example, a note has a French noun and its translation.
Each note defines a single card that has the French noun on
one side and its translation on the other.

During the upgrade notes were created for each fact in the previous
version. The relation between facts and cards in the previous version
is the same as the relation between notes and cards in the current
version (i.e., every card must correspond to a fact in the previous
version).

An aside:
If we have a note that has a single card associated with it,
suspend card and suspend note are probably not that unlike
each other, so it might make sense to offer a single option,
even if I am not sure if that would be a good idea as it would
affect the behavior if a new card type (for example, a reverse
card from meaning to French noun) were to be added later on.

Thanks, this clarifies things perfectly! I probably do not have any notes since I just upgraded from the previous version.

OK, so I get that Templates generate cards from notes. For instance, I have a countries deck with several fields, which generate many types of cards. But one of those is the Dialing Code. I don't want to study that. How do I turn off studying of that issue, without messing with the carefully designed template or turning off the other types of cards?

Your template is generating a card for studying the dialing code, and you don't need that card? So just delete that card from the template...?
It's difficult to give specific advice without more specific information about your card template and what you want to achieve...

Thanks for responding. Is the attached screenshot specific enough about the card template? I assume this is a template even though I hit the ‘card’ button to get here. As you can see, somebody has gone to some effort to design how the question should be asked and the answer presented. I don’t want to delete all that work. And as you can see, the pop-up menu for available actions doesn’t include ‘suspend’.

So, how do I tell it to stop asking me this question about the dialling code of the various countries?

As for your question itself, you can press the "x" button to remove that specific card template. You could export the deck first to make a backup of the template if you are worried about needing it later.
Alternatively you can keep the template and manually suspend all of the cards that it generates using the card browser (refer to the manual for this). It's not possible to configure a template to automatically suspend cards for you.
