In the advanced section of the AnkiDroid manual, it says:

>AnkiDroid can remind you to devote some time to reviewing cards every day at a specific time via Android’s notification framework. You can configure reminders for each options group independently. To configure a notification go to Deck options > Reminders, then tick the checkbox and select the time you want to be notified at. To stop receiving notifications go to Deck options > Reminders and unmark the checkbox.

However, I can't find a "Reminder" under the Deck Options menu. My options are:

  • Options Group
  • Group Management
  • New Cards
  • Reviews
  • Lapses
  • General
  • Deck Description

I have the latest version of AnkiDroid that's on the Play Store (2.7). I'm on Android 7.0.

Is this an old feature that doesn't exist anymore? A new one I don't have yet? Is there some magic switch I need to enable first?

I'm not sure how to get notifications out of AnkiDroid without manually opening the app first. The whole reason I want reminders is to get me to go into the app in the first place.

Thanks,

Eginhard

Yes, that's only in the 2.9alpha version at the moment: https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases

You need to add the AnkiDroid wiget to your homescreen to see notifications about pending reviews: https://ankidroid.org/docs/manual.html#_notifications

Thank you for the quick reply, the widget is tremendously helpful.

I'm fairly certain I ended up at that documentation through the app itself, and the title at the top says it's for version 2.6.

Has there been any consideration of addressing this sort of confusion? It seems like versioning the Manual, hosting those versions at different urls, and having the app put its own build/release number into the url would do the trick, e.g.:

Thanks, I updated the version number at the top and added a note to the Reminders section.

Keeping different versions of the manual might only add to, rather than decrease the confusion. There are only occasional changes to the manual anyway, but we could certainly do a better job at making sure it's up-to-date.
