I have a huge deck of foreign language cards that I now want to make into a different, additional deck, with the card sides reversed (answer/question). How can I do that to a whole deck at once?

I never heard of the "Basic (and reversed card)" option until today, so it's too late for that.

I've been through the manual and the faq, but I don't see the solution -- at least not anything that I understand.

Thanks for any hints.

By the way, I watched the Youtube video on how to make reversed cards, but it puts the normal and the reversed versions of each card all into the same single deck! WTF?

Yes, normally people want and expect both directions to be in the same deck. Although you can also select all the reversed cards in Anki Desktop and put them in a separate deck. You can also use filtered decks to put the normal and reversed cards into separate decks.

Relevant manual section if you haven't seen it: https://ankidroid.org/docs/manual.html#reverseCards

A long-press on a deck name invokes a menu of options, but one of the options is NOT "reverse the deck." For the developer to have overlooked such an essential function of flashcards in absolutely inexplicable.

Can anyone instruct me on how to take a deck and make it into a new deck with the questions/answers reversed? The manual does not help -- it says you "can" do this or you "can" do that, but it does now give any clear step-by-step instructions on HOW to do it. I have read the relevant sections of the manual several times, but I am baffled.

Anki isn't really a flashcard app, it's a sophisticated system for spaced repetition (read more here for a more detailed explanation of that concept). We don't have the option "reverse the deck" because there's no such thing as "reversing a deck" in Anki (instead we have "note types"). If you try to rush into the advanced features of Anki without first understanding things like what is the difference between a note and a card, what is a template, etc, you are likely to be frustrated. I strongly suggest reading through "the basics" section of the main Anki manual in its entirety. After understanding the background information, it should be obvious to you how to accomplish what you want.

I strongly suggest keeping the reverse cards in the same deck as the forward cards for now... It's possible to separate them, but you'll need to make a dedicated template and use the deck override feature, which might involve going a bit deeper than you're willing to go.

To change all of your cards to a note type with a reverse card, you will need to use Anki Desktop, as it's not currently possible to do bulk operations with AnkiDroid. Use the cloud sync feature to get your cards into Anki Desktop. Then in Anki Desktop:

Open the browser, choose your deck, press "ctrl+a" to select all cards, and then choose "change note type" from the edit menu and choose the "basic and reversed card" template.

Alright so I was wondering this same question too and I figured it out so I made a whole deck from English into Japanese, what you do is, 1. Go to browse and highlight the whole deck of cards. 2. Change the note type to Basic and Reversed which will double the cards 3. Once they're doubled to separate them go to FILTER, note types and click card 2! if originally you had that English to target language so you'll select all the target language to English cards, move those to a new folder you had and then delete those from that deck..bada bing bada boom lol hope this helped!

Hi,
I think the normal way to make a reverse cards is the following:
1) menu > manage note type
2) long tap your note > edit cards
3) dotted menu > add...

By this, AnkiDroid will automatically create reverse cards for all cards of that note type. You'd just need to move the aswer to the front template and the question to the back template (or you can freely style front and back as you like it).

For those who want to create reversed cards in the same deck I make a mini guide.
