Okay. Have an android phone, but haven't used AnkiDroid yet. My worry
is, since it is incomplete, if I copy my deck over and start using it,
it will mess up my scheduling. As in, when I copy the deck back to use
with the desktop client, it will mess everything up, scheduling ,etc.

My question: Is it safe to use now? Is the algorithm exactly the same?

Also, when is the next update.

Thanks for your hard work!

Hello blrrgrr3453,

Old versions of AnkiDroid used to mess decks, but it has been fixed in
version 0.4
I have been using AnkiDroid SRS since November 2009, to review
everyday several decks containing thousands of cards, and my decks are
very normal. When I copy them to my desktop computer and check the
statistics it is all fine, as if I had been using the usual Anki
software.

Yes, the SRS algorithm is the same.
It misses leeches and synchronization, but decks are just the same as
if you had been using Anki with leeches disabled.

Next update: good question. Everybody, what do you think?
The list of changes is already very impressive:
- Download shared decks
- Localization in Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, French, Greek, Russian, Polish
- Support for Archos-type storage
- Review early
- Font size and colours
Synchronization would be nice to have, but maybe we should release an
update before sync is implemented and well-tested?

Thanks for your interest in AnkiDroid!
Cheers,
Nicolas

Since I've had AnkiDroid on my phone I've not touched it on the
computer, so no idea, but it doesn't seem overly important though LOL

The only thing I'm concern is when/if it saves, I'm always concerned
if I urn the phone off or if the batt dies, what will be lost.

We are all eager ;^>

Release early, release often. How about two version on the market, or
at least an installable one on the web page, that is more bleeding
edge? I'd rather not have to set up an android dev environment just to
run a more current version.

I mean, I set up ankimini, but my G1 with all the junk running in the
background usually means the web server only works after a reboot, and
dies if I switch away from the browser.

Thanks for a great piece of software! I think something would be nice,
and getting sync working would be nice too.

Thanks,
Ron

The decks are saved every time a card is answered or edited, so the only way of losing some review it would be that the app is closed in any way (because the phone runs out of battery, because the user force closed it...) while AnkiDroid is still saving it.

> Also, when is the next update.

We have to talk and polish some things but it will not take so long for sure. It is going to be a matter of weeks, at most.

I am still finishing sync but I was already thinking about how we could improve the organization of the group, and one of the things I came out is maybe release more often than now. The thing that is not really convenient for final users to set up the development environment by themselves, if they want to enjoy the last improvements, is a good point. But like I said, we are going to talk about that with all AnkiDroid Team. Obviously, you all are welcome to participate in the next discussions.

Thanks to you all for using AnkiDroid and let us know your opinion. I am sure that also Nicolas and the rest of the team really appreciate this kind words. I really, really do :D

Cheers and stay tuned!

That's good to know, I've never had a problem, but it did concern me a little.

That's right, changes are immediately saved to the database.
And if the battery dies just at the moment when the database is being
written, there should not be any corruption because we use database
transactions.

Edu, the synchronization feature will probably require more time to
develop, and a lot of testing (many things can go wrong over HTTP and
sync is very complex).
So how about releasing all of the current improvements in 10 days, and
then again in a few weeks when sync is well-tested?

Cheers!
Nicolas
