Hello Team,

I have been searching in the user Forum and turn to you now that I could not find the Topic:

Can I use an ebook Reader with Ankidroid? Which ebook Reader does work with Ankidroid?

Thank you for a response,

Heike Mohr

I'm not sure I know the old nooks used to work with it, there is code in the application to support it. Unsure which version of nook though. If you get a fire tablet that should work as well

Nook simple touch runs on Android 2.1.
It can be rooted to install other apks.
I have not tested Anki on it, but some other applications worked fine.
But IMHO the screen is too slow for Anki, it takes some time to
refresh the screen.
For reading it is okay, but Anki requires faster responses, and it
might be irritating.

However, for this version you would need an old Ankidroid version, as
the new ones require a newer Android version.
I'm not sure if the newer Nook version runs on top of an Android system.
But I guess any e-reader that runs Android might be compatible.

Nook Color (simple touch?) is Android 2.2
Nook Tablet is Android 2.3
Nook HD / HD+ is Android 4.0.3

I think all of them are rootable and work but the interface refresh may be very slow as Renato mentions

This isn’t true through the 2.8 series for all of them, as I only just now removed backwards compatibility for Android younger than API 15 / Android 4.0.3. Even then, I think we’re going to try to leave the old 2.8.x series available on the Play Store for older devices

For the Nook HD / HD+ it will still be running a supported Android version even through the 2.9 AnkiDroid series since we aren’t going to move the API level higher than API 15 / Android 4.0.3 at the moment. So they should remain supported.

Nook was discontinued after the HD, so that’s it for them

Kindle Paperwhites definitely not (I have one, it isn’t Android though the “Kindle Fire” line of tablets, yes).
Kobo looks like not.
I don’t personally know of others.

If you are willing to invest a few days of hacking time, it might be possible to get Anki Desktop working on Kindle e-Readers:

Ankidroid runs on a ONYX BOOX Nova Pro (Android 6.0.1). No need to root device because the Nova Pro allows to enable Google Play Store out of the box.
Some elements of the Ankidroid GUI are hard to read due to the E Ink display but if you are used to Ankidroid you get around this.

hi all

I have Max Lumi and have Anki installed and synced on the device. However the drawing feature is not available on my Max Lumi. I checked and the app is updated.

Is it a limitation on the anki running on ebooks or is there a setting that i should activate?

Thanks
