Hi,
I use a chromebook for my study and downloaded anki droid as an app. I am unable to open the .apkg file that i downloaded. Everytime I click on the .apkg from my drive, i see its opening ankidroid but it disappears in a couple of seconds of trying to open. Pls help.

Thanks,
Suresh

I can't help much with Chromebooks, but does importing it directly from the app work?

Hi, to use shared decks on a device (like Chromebook, tablet, smart phone), it is necessary first to use a computer installation of Anki (on a PC or Mac) to open the .apkg file, add it to your Anki account, and sync it on AnkiWeb. You must use a computer installation to place a shared deck into your account. There's no other method right now. When you sync your computer account with your AnkiWeb account (uploading), THEN your device can get the deck by syncing with your AnkiWeb account. If you don't have access to a computer, you won't be able to install shared decks on your device.

Hi Anita,

This is probably true for Chromebooks (which are now unsupported by us), but it is incorrect for tablets and smartphones. In fact it is almost certainly possible for a user that owns a Chromebook and a smart phone / tablet to open the shared deck on their smartphone / tablet like you describe, and add it to their account without resorting to the use of a PC.

Hi Timothy,
Thanks so much for your response.
I'd love to help my absolute beginner-level English students take the shortest path to load a shared deck I've made for them. I'm looking at my Android phone now... the "Import" button tells me "Place the apkg file in directory "/storage/emulated/0/AnkiDroid" and touch "OK" to import cards." OK, I don't know how to do that, but it's learnable, so I've got some digging ahead ... I'm off to the manual. :D
Thank you thank you
Anita

It's so much easier than I thought!
So simple! Ah.
Now I'll try on my Chromebook...
