Counts over 1000 are truncated because the higher the number, the longer it takes Anki to calculate, and you're unlikely to want to study more than 1000 in a day. If you want to see the exact number you can search for is:new in the browser and look at the count in the title bar. Please do not encourage people to download RC versions of 2.0, as many bugs have been fixed since then and it's likely to just cause problems.

I agree it's annoying. In my case, I check that on the desktop each time I do a backup of my "collection". On the desktop I have anki-2.0-rc, which doesn't have this problem. I'm not sure where this version is available, as http://ankisrs.net only offers either the latest (currently 2.0.7) or versions older than 2.0.  Maybe someone knows where this version is still available, but since I still have the installation file, and I can upload it, here it... Oh... I'm not allowed to upload *.exe files, sorry... I was thinking of opening a Mega box anyway, so give me a couple of minutes...
Still there? https://mega.co.nz/#!FlkTTAqR!Mbxxvl-LBSP30dAdkfD7onPOg0VIEGmrh2Un4dI5MHk

> When I'm on the intro screen of this fat advanced German list (My other lists are much smaller, around 2000), if my clumsy fingers touch the "list" button, then the phone tries to display all the words... and crashes (including on 2.0.1, just tried... actually now the phone reboots, which is better than when I had to turn it off and on to unfreeze it). Maybe it would be better to only load the first 1000, and have a right-left button to move to the next and previous thousand?

Can you please post this bug to the issue tracker?
Please include a log file, either by generating one yourself using sendlog, or by sending the error report in AnkiDroid and finding your crash report here.

The problem may not be related to the size of your deck since my decks are much bigger (> 20,000) yet open without problem in the browser.
If you go to preferences->general->Fast card browser open and check this option, you should be able to open the browser without your device crashing.
From there you could try different queries (syntax is same as desktop) and see whether smaller queries also cause a crash.

I see... actually I just downloaded 2.0.7 to see what the problem was, but I can still see the exact count, in the stat page. So there's no point in downloading this 2.0 file (other than for experimental purpose, at your own risks).
The point of knowing the exact count is not about the day's study, but to be able to plan the study in advance: for example I have another 1500 words of advanced German to introduce, so if I want them all introduced within 5 months (to have decent knowledge 6 months from now) I need to study 10 new per day. I wouldn't know that if I only had the 1000+ indication.
About something that takes time to calculate: When I'm on the intro screen of this fat advanced German list (My other lists are much smaller, around 2000), if my clumsy fingers touch the "list" button, then the phone tries to display all the words... and crashes (including on 2.0.1, just tried... actually now the phone reboots, which is better than when I had to turn it off and on to unfreeze it). Maybe it would be better to only load the first 1000, and have a right-left button to move to the next and previous thousand?
