Hi,

I downloaded AnkiDroid on both my android phone (HTC Evo 4g - sprint) and my ICS Android tablet (HP touchpad) and am having an issue with viewing the images.  The images are synced/downloaded onto my devices (via dropbox) but I simply cannot view them in the flashcards...all I say is a small blue square with a question mark instead of the image.  Any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

zuhab,

Did you create/download this deck from the Anki desktop app? If so, is the deck & images working correctly in Ankiweb?

If you access your on-line Dropbox account ...
- - - are you able to view all of your deck images?
- - - click the small blue down arrow next to your user id/name
- - - then click settings=>My computers tab ... do you see your mobile devices listed ...if so, is any activity listed?

Depending on what you observe ... you might have to delete the deck on you mobile devices and back in the desktop open the deck and do a Check Database & Check Media Database ... but 1st do the things listed above.

Also, what ver of Ankidroid was download?

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply.  Here are the answers:

1-I created this deck using the Anki desktop application on my pc.

2-The deck and images work fine on Ankiweb when I access it from my pc.  When I access Ankiweb from my tablet (HP touchpad booted with ICS), I can see the images but the text that I had in bold print does not show up in bold print for some reason.  Otherwise, Ankiweb on my tablet seems to work fine.

3-When I access my Dropbox account on-line, I don't know where the images are saved and so I can't see them (unable to access the files altogether).

4-Regarding my Dropbox account=>settings=> my computers tab...there is only 1 AnkiDroid shows up, I'm guessing its referring to the one linked with my phone (HTC Evo) and it does not show any activity.  However, it does not show 2 AnkiDroid links as there should be (the 2nd one I'm referring to is the one on my tablet).

5-Additionally, I have v1.1 of AnkiDroid...this is the one that showed up in the app store and I simply downloaded the one that was there.

So, given this, what should I do?...should I first download the latest version of AniDroid and see how that goes?...If so, how do I download the latest version?  Also, any advice/guidance will be much appreciated.

thanks again,
Zuhab

zuhab,

Regarding your responses:

This I'm not sure about ... so rather than give you bad advice ... I hope someone from the forum will be able to answer this for you.

3-When I access my Dropbox account on-line, I don't know where the images are saved and so I can't see them (unable to access the files altogether).

When you access your on-line Dropbox account ... in the folder list click "Public"=>"Anki". Then in the Anki folder, locate your decks media file folder and open it to view the individual media files.

From Dropbox's "My Computer" tab, have you attempted to add the missing device(s). If you click add then follow the Mobile Link. The next page will display the Dropbox apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Blackberry. Select the ones that apply to your device then try to download / sync the deck.

This appears to be OK. Have you viewed the info on the link yet? http://code.google.com/p/ankidroid/

Joe-

I think I may have figured out the problem....I believe the reason that I am unable to view the images is bc the images were initially associated with flashcards that were imported into my new deck.  I realized that for the original flashcards in the deck (i.e., the flashcards that were not imported), I can now view the images.  However, for those flashcards that were imported from another deck, the images do not show.  These same images, however, I can see them in their original deck!

OK...I feel much better now knowing what the issue is.

So, any suggestions given this new info?  Question is open to all obviously.

BTW, I'm viewing my images from my on-line Dropbox account...it appears that the images were imported without any problem to the new deck.  I'm not sure why I can't see the images when I review the imported flashcards though???

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

zuhab,

When you open this deck in AnkiWeb are the "new" imported images working?

If you answer yes ....then delete the decks from your mobile devices and then re-download / sync them again.

If you answered no ...  Open the Anki desktop app & the deck then do:
- - - "Check Database"
- - - "Check Media Database"
- - - "Download Missing Media"

Re-check the remote deck for the missing media. If this didn't fix the problem then
- - - Delete the decks from your mobile devices & AnkiWeb.

Then go back to the desktop, open the deck and do a full sync(File=>Sync). Open AnkiWeb and verify that everything is working. Then from your mobile device(s) download / sync the deck and check it..

-YES, THE "NEW" (IE IMPORTED) IMAGES ARE WORKING ON ANKIWEB (THOUGH THERE IS A SLIGHT 1-2 SECOND DELAY IN THE IMAGES APPEARING AFTER THE ANSWER TEXT APPEARS)

If you answer yes ....then delete the decks from your mobile devices and then re-download / sync them again.

-TRIED THIS THIS EARLIER TODAY AND THEN AGAIN RIGHT NOW...THIS DOESN'T APPEAR TO HELP THE ISSUE

If you answered no ...  Open the Anki desktop app & the deck then do:
- - - "Check Database"
- - - "Check Media Database"
- - - "Download Missing Media"

-DID THIS ANYWAY...IT DIDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS OR ANY MISSING MEDIA TO DOWNLOAD.  (AGAIN, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT EVERYTHING WORKS FINE ONE MY PC DESKTOP ANKI.  THAT IS, THE "NEW" IMPORTED IMAGES SHOW UP JUST FINE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES)

Re-check the remote deck for the missing media. If this didn't fix the problem then
- - - Delete the decks from your mobile devices & AnkiWeb.

-DELETE THE DECK FROM MY ANKIWEB?!?!....YOU'RE POSITIVE THIS WILL NOT DELETE THE DECK ALTOGETHER (I.E., I WON'T LOSE IT)?  CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE THE DECK AND HAVING TO RECREATE IT.  IT TOOK A LOT OF TIME AND SO JUST WANTED TO BE CLEAR THAT I'LL BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN.
