Hello everyone,

I'm totally new to AnkiDroid, so i apologize in advance if my question is silly, and has already been answered tons of times (I searched on the different forums but i didn't find anything relevant).

I'm using Hanping, a great english/chinese dictionary. The app allows to create directly AnkiDroid cards from the words you're looking up to ! The notes created are of great complexity (in my opinion), and 6 card types can be created from one note (asking for the english translation given the chinese character or the pinyin given the prononciation...). In Hanping, when exporting a card, they asked what kind of card type you want it to be.

My question is simple, I would like to have separate decks in Anki, depending on the kind of question. I know it's not the Anki's philosophy to separate cards in too many decks, but my request sounds legitimate since in Chinese, you may want to learn the pinyin and the characters at two different speeds, or at least have two different sets of words.

I don't think one needs to know a lot about Hanping to answer that question. Actually it just the question of whether or not it is possible to sort cards in different decks, given the note template ?

Thank you in avance, and I apologize again for my possible bad use of Anki specific vocabulary.

I'm not sure in 2.8, but in the 2.9 series (in alpha now, but stable as
we can make it, and forwards- / backwards-compatible with 2.8 in case it
doesn't work) you can do "multi-select" in the card browser and move
multiple cards at once to a new deck. In combination with the right
search query in the card browser (by card type? should be possible) you
can select all of one card type and move them to a deck.

It may be possible to set up a custom deck with the right search query
to filter in 2.8 but I'm not sure whether new cards get put in the
synthetic custom deck as they are added, or whether it's only cards that
were there during build time.

If 2.9 is interesting to try for you the instructions on joining the
beta program then signalling that alpha builds are okay can be found here:
